Gold Fever

Great Plants with Golden Foliage

Posted By: in Feature Products

For those occasional dreary days here on the west coast try planting some "living" sunshine into your garden.

Golden foliage is bright and cheery, adds punch and can be used to draw the eye to areas of interest. These living rays of sunshine are sure to brighten your day.

Aralia cordata Sunking

Aralia cordata 'Sun King'

Golden Japanese Spikenard

Beautiful, fresh and bold foliage on this fast growing perennial from Japan make it a winner for the garden. Spikes of tiny white flowers in late summer followed by clusters of purple-black berries contrast nicely with the golden foliage. For best colour plant in full sun to light shade in any well-drained soil. Keep moist during the summer heat to prevent foliar burn. Makes an excellent container specimen. Height: 1.25-2m Spread: 1.25m Zone: 4

Brunnera Dianes Gold

Brunnera macrophylla 'Diane's Gold'

Siberian Bugloss

Compact growing perennial with beautiful heart-shaped leaves of soft gold to chartreuse. Starry clusters of bright blue forget-me-not flowers in early spring adds that perfect touch. More tolerant of sun if given even moisture with leaves becoming an intense metallic golden yellow. Great in the shade border or mixed containers. Height: 30cm Spread: 60cm Zone: 4

Ceratostigma x willmottianum My Love

Ceratostigma x willmottianum 'My Love'

 Golden Plumbago

Reddish-burgundy stems and intense golden foliage which turns red in fall, combined with brilliant clear blue flowers in late summer are sure to entice you to give it a home in your garden. This low, mounding perennial with a somewhat trailing habit prefers full sun to light shade in well-drained soil and is drought tolerant once established. Height: 30-45cm Spread: 60cm Zone: 7

Geum coccineum Eos

Geum coccineum 'Eos'

Golden Avens

A compact, semi-evergreen perennial with intense, bright yellow foliage. Rich velvety orange flowers dot the plant late spring into summer. 'Eos' has it's best colouring in full sun but will burn if the site gets too hot and dry, in which case partial shade is best. Give adequate drainage and even moisture. Height: 30cm Spread: 30-45cm Zone: 5

Hydrangea quercifolia Little Honey

Hydrangea quercifolia 'Little Honey'

Oakleaf Hydrangea

A dwarf, compact growing hydrangea with bright gold foliage; scarlet fall colouring. Panicles of pale green to white flowers in summer. Plants prefer a site that has good drainage and adequate moisture; give some protection from hottest afternoon sun. Semi-evergreen. A real little honey! Height: 1m Spread: 1m Zone: 6

Phygelius x rectus Lemon Spritzer

Phygelius x rectus 'Lemon Spritzer'

Cape Fuchsia

The first variegated Phygelius with lemon yellow leaves splashed and dotted with a combination of lime, dark green and sometimes cream. Coral orange trumpets from midsummer into fall seal the deal for this stunner! A vigorous and easy to grow perennial that does best in full sun or light shade with proper drainage. An eye catcher when planted en masse. Height: 1m Spread: 90cm Zone: 7
