Camellias are evergreen flowering shrubs that offer so much to the garden in early spring. While there are hundreds of varieties available, these three wonderful white flowering varieties really caught our eye this year.
swan lake camellia

Swan Lake Japanese Camellia

Camellia japonica 'Swan Lake'
Swan Lake Japanese Camellia is an evergreen shrub that offers glistening white extra large blooms in late winter early spring. Flowers have a formal to double form and offer striking contrast against the evergreen, dark green foliage. This variety grows 6-8ft in height and can be planted in either a sunny or part shade location. Sheltered locations are best.

Silver Waves Japanese Camellia

Camellia japonica 'Silver Waves'
This evergreen shrub features abundant large blooms, silvery-white in colour with golden yellow stamens. It is one of the earliest japonica varieties to bloom, starting in December all the way through to March depending on your climate. Foliage is dark green and striking in contrast against the flowers. Like other Camellias, it can be planted in sun or part shade, preferably in a sheltered location. Grows 6-8 feet in height.
nuccios gem camellia

Nuccios Gem Japanese Camellia

Camellia japonica 'Nuccios Gem'
A handsome evergreen japanese camellia with sparkling large white blooms, formal to double in form. Flowers make an excellent contrast to the glossy, dark green foliage. Blooms December through March depending on your climate. Grows 6-8 feet in height. Best when planted in a sheltered location in sun to part sun.

Camellias grow best in mild climates with well drained, rich, slightly acidic soil. A location in sun or part sun/shade is best. While pruning is largely unnecessary, trim them after flowering if rejuvenation is required.

Art's brings in a huge selection of Camellias each spring including the varieties mentioned and others. Drop by and visit while they are still in bloom!
