Dogwood shrubs are small, multi-stemmed deciduous plants with bright green or variegated foliage and brilliantly coloured red, yellow or orange coloured stems in fall and winter. As a group they are often called red-twig dogwoods or yellow-twigged dogwoods. Dogwood shrubs belong to several species including Cornus sericea and Cornus stolonifera.
Dogwood shrubs are best grown in full sun or part shade and will tolerate most soils including moist or boggy conditions. Prune heavily in late winter to encourage lots of new straight growth.
