Flowering Quince or Chaenomeles is an underused deciduous shrub with spiny, dense stems, bright green foliage and very early blooming, colour flowers. Though ornamental, Flowering Quince will occasionally produce (non-edible) fruit.
Chaenomeles plants are best grown in full sun and moist, but well drained soils. Fertilize annually in spring and prune after flowering.
It is an excellent choice for barriers, bonsai, containers, walls, cottage and woodland gardens.
Flowering quince is also sometimes called Japanese Quince.
