What are oxygenating plants?

Oxygenating plants are an essential part of mid to large size water features, particularly ones with fish. Oxygenators grow under water and float freely around the pond. They control algae, absorb excess nutrients from the water, free-up oxygen that clears the water and helps allow the fish to breath. The roots of oxygenating plants also provide shelter, food and protection for fish, especially spawning or baby fish.
