The underside of the leaf and the whole stalk have spikes on them. In early summer it bears tiny red-green flowers in conical branched panicles, followed by small, spherical fruit.
Giant, clump-forming herbaceous perennial. The leaves can grow up to 2.5m across. It has erect spikes of cone-shapedflowers from late spring to early summer. Cut leaves to and cover crown of plant for winter.
This form has large pointy-edged leaves tinged with bronzy-red in spring, later becoming green. Bizarre spikes of flowers tower overhead in summer, in shades of soft pink to red, and these are interesting as cut flowers. Harmful if eaten.

Rhubarb German Wine features green petioles. Quite similar to Victoria but slightly more vigorous and more intense in color. Usually has a darker pink speckling on a green stem. Harvest in summer. Grows to height of 40 inches. Plant in full sun. 1 Root
Valentine Rhubarb features thick, long red stalks and deep red ptetioles that retain their colour when cooked. Vigorous variety ideal for home gardeners. Few if any seed stalks. Grows to 36 inches. Harvest in summer. Best when planted in full sun. 1 Root
