Unusual and Unique Fruits
Sea Buckthorn is incredibly hardy, you plant a male and a female variety, and you get wonderful clusters of orange fruits in late summer, early fall, very high in vitamin C.
Paw Paw Plants
We also have Paw Paws fantastic, almost banana shaped fruit. They'll form a little bit of grove, so even though they look tiny right now, make sure you give them room to sort of form their own little grove. They’re incredibly hardy.
Next we have Jujubes we have a number of different varieties, we have Li and Winter Delight, they are hardy for our climate, they can be planted outside full sun, well draining soil, and so far all of them full sun, well, draining soil.
Next we have olives absolutely fantastic. Many of them are self-fruitful, they’re wind-pollinated but in in colder climates it's good to have a pollinator with it. So if you can get two different varieties you can use the leaves to make olive leaf tea, they will fruit for you later November, you can pick your fruit and again very hardy for a climate. They actually make a really, really beautiful landscape tree. We have Universal and Leccino olives, just really lovely silvery foliage tree.
Next we have many citrus plants to choose from. If you have a cozy corner, Flying Dragon Citrus is a really unique botanical feature. We have our Improved Meyer Lemons, and our Kishu Mandarins. And we even have the Cocktail Grapefruit. These are ones, that would be patio plants. So these citrus would go out on your patio in the summertime and then you bring them inside to a sunny place. You know front window if you have a sunny south facing window and they make actually a pretty cool house plant, their flowers have heavenly fragrance. Just gorgeous. And they'll bloom in your house as well. Just a great and unusual fruiting plant and you can get lemons and grapefruits and oranges actually, here on the West Coast.
Here are capers, this is a really unusual, spineless caper. They are hardy, if you have a protected place, full sun, keep them out of the wind, and you can grow your own capers. Imagine. So this one might be coming home with me.
So, take a chance on something new and unusual for your garden and maybe grow some pretty amazing fruit.
