David Austin is a rose breeder, specialist grower and author.
His first rose, the fragrant Constance Spry, was released in 1961. Since then he has released nearly two hundred English Roses. Few new flowers have caused such a stir in the horticultural world. Austin roses include climbers, ramblers, old roses, shrub roses, species roses and modern roses. The collection includes over 200 varieties of roses.
Roses are easy to grow and remarkably tolerant. It is only necessary to get a few basic points right and you will have good results. Select a site with at least a few hours of sun each day where the roots of the rose will not be in competition with the roots of other plants, especially trees. Roses will grow in a wide range of soils, but they do appreciate good soil preparation. Regular watering is essential, the rose will be stronger, healthier and, most importantly, produce more flowers.
The most commonly asked question about Roses is, when do I prune them? Prune roses in the early spring when the yellow flowered forsythia blooms.
