Evergreen Azaleas are closely related to Rhododendrons and in fact, many horticulturists treat them the same. Like Rhododendrons, they produce colourful masses of flowers in spring in shades of white, orange, pink, red and purple. They produce so many flowers that it is often difficult to see the plant underneath!
Newer Azalea varieties are re-blooming, meaning that a second flush of flowers can appear in summer or fall. While several brand names exist, Encore re-blooming azaleas have proven popular in recent years.
Evergreen Azaleas prefer part shade, but will tolerate sun if the ground is moister. Otherwise, a moist, but well drained, acidic soil is recommended.
