How To Grow Nerve Plant
Fittonia versachaffeltii
The Nerve plant, also known as the Mosaic Plant is a low growing plant that is perfect for terrariums and as an indoor groundcover. Delicately veined deep-green leaves make it attractive in mixed planters too! Can be a little temperamental and tricky to grow.
LIGHT
This plant prefers low to medium light. A north facing window is good. Grows well under fluorescent lights too. It is sensitive to strong direct sunlight and can quickly scorch.
WATER
Water regularly. This plant needs to be kept constantly moist. The plant can collapse if allowed to dry out. High humidity is a requirement. Frequent misting is recommended.
SOIL
Use a peat moss-based potting mix. Soil should retain some moisture but drain well.
CARE
Fertilize weekly with a ½ strength dose of liquid fertilizer. Can grow quickly in the right conditions. Pinching off the tips will prevent the plant from getting too leggy. Too much water will lead to yellowed, limp foliage. Dry, shrivelled leaves could be under watering. Leaf drop can occur as a result of cold temperatures or drafts.
