How To Grow Philodendron
Philodendron
Philodendrons are some of the most sought after tropical houseplants. These beautiful foliage plants can be weeping or upright and can grow into large specimens in your home.
LIGHT
Philodendrons prefer conditions that mimic their jungle home. Provide dappled, bright light. They can learn to tolerate bright sun, but prefer a light shade. Leaves that turn yellow all at once could indicate too much light. If its too leggy, give it more light.
WATER
Keep the soil moist at all times. Give aerial roots soil contact when possible. Mist during the winter months to maintain humidity. Over watering can also be a problem. Drooping leaves may indicate too much water.
SOIL
These plants like loose, rich potting soil that drains well. Our Pro-Mix Tropical soil is a good suggestion. They will also grow in Sphagnum peat moss in ideal conditions.
CARE
Philodendrons dislike temperatures below 55F. Maintain humidity by misting or using a pebble tray filled with water near them. These plants benefit from a regular fertilizing plan. Feed weekly with a ½ strength liquid plant food. Slow down the feeding in winter to perhaps once a month. Philodendrons can be toxic to kids and pets if eaten. Take precautions.
